Bears Historic Night Moves Them onto the Next Round

CHATTANOOGA, TN. – The Bears would battle against UTC University in the Bears second game of the SoCon Softball Championship. game of SoCon. This 11-8 Bears victory would set a SoCon tournament record for most runs scored by two teams. The Bears would also record the largest comeback in SoCon Softball Championship history.

How It Happened

The Bears would start the game off on defense. During the first inning, the bears would retire three batters. Taking the plate first for the bears was Alyssa Woods. Woods doubled down the left field line. Rebeca Laudino would be walked next. Bailey Ledvina had a SAC bunt which moved Woods and Laudino into scoring position. However, the bears would not capitalize on the position. The score at the end of the first was 0-0. UTC would score one at the top of the second. Sophie Sumner would make it to first, a Parris Wiggs would SAC bunt and reach first on an error. Wiggs would steal to second, leaving the Bears in scoring position. The Bears would capitalize this time off an error from UTC and would score two. The bears would lead 2-1 heading into the third inning.

In the third UTC would score seven runs. The Bears would answer with a Kylie Helm double down the left field line. Tori Hedgecock would follow that double off with a two-run home run. The Bears would cut away at UTC's lead decreasing it to four. UTC would lead 8-4 heading to the top of the fourth. The Bears would keep UTC held scoreless in the top of the fourth. The Bears would score six runs in the fourth inning. Helm would put Laudino and Woods home off a double into center field. Helm would get sent home by a walk on Grace Prom. The Bears would score two runs off two UTC errors taking the lead.

In the fifth the Bears and UTC would be held scoreless. Avery Barton would be walked to first. Prom would move Barton to second off a SAC bunt. Barton stole third forcing an error from UTC which secured another run for the bears. The Bears defense would hold scoreless in the top of the seventh. The Bears would take the game 11-8 and move onto the next round of the SoCon Softball Championship.
