ATLANTA – Sophomore Avery Barton's 3-run bomb in the top of the fifth helped Mercer stake claim to a 5-2 lead, but red-hot Georgia Tech rallied for three runs of their own in the sixth, and one more in the seventh, to turn back the Bears by a 6-5 count on Wednesday evening at Shirley Clements Mewborn Field.
Â
Mercer (7-5) tacked up its most runs in more than a decade in the series with the Yellow Jackets (11-7), but Georgia Tech still managed to push its series win streak out to seven games with the result. Georgia Tech has now captured five-straight games in Atlanta against the Orange & Black.

KEY INNINGS | |
TOP 5 | Laura Vigna climbed aboard with a bunt single, and Tori Hedgecock followed by drawing a full-count walk to get something going for the visitors. Georgia Tech starter Chandler Dennis put the second out of the frame on the board via strikeout, but Avery Barton leaned into a 1-and-2 offering from Dennis in the ensuing at-bat and launched it 237 feet into the trees in centerfield to put MU on top. |
BOT 6 | Georgia Tech loaded the bases with its first four at-bats in the home half of the sixth, and cut into its deficit with a RBI groundout from Tiffany Domingue. Madison Dobbins would follow with a 2-run single moments later to knot the game back up. |
BOT 7 | Emma Minghini reached via a costly two-base error to lead off the frame, then moved within a fly ball of scoring on Paige Vukadinovich's sacrifice bunt. Jin Sileo's run-scoring single in the ensuing at-bat provided the walk-off for the hosts. |
