Rain-Altered Series Gets Underway On Saturday At 6 P.M.
MACON – The Mercer softball team will continue a four-game home stand on Saturday and Sunday when the Bears lift the lid on the Southern Conference portion of the regular season schedule by hosting Wofford in a weekend series at Sikes Field. The clubs will open up the set on Saturday at 6 p.m., and will close out the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday.

Fans unable to make the trip to Middle Georgia can still follow the games for free via live statistics links provided by the MU athletics department. Saturday's game is scheduled to be streamed live on ESPN+.
Â
The Bears (10-15, 0-0 SoCon) laid a four-game skid to rest in a big way on Wednesday evening. Georgia State plated a quartet of unearned runs in the top of the first inning, but Mercer answered with 16 unanswered scores to register an abbreviated 16-4 rout of the Owls at Sikes Field. It was the most runs for MU since a 17-3 victory over Fort Wayne on March 9, 2018, and the most hits (16) for the program since tallying 16 safeties against Chattanooga on April 11, 2021.
Â
Mercer will tote the SoCon's second-best batting average (.281) into the weekend, while also toting the league's second-best defensive squad (.965 fielding percentage) as well. Mercer is 7-3 in the comfy confines of home this season, including a current three-game win streak at Sikes Field.
Â
Junior Tori Hedgecock has already collected a SoCon-best 11 home runs in 2024, while also ranking second among league leaders in RBI (30) and third in runs scored. Junior shortstop Emma Dorval has turned in multiple hits in five of her last seven starts, and has amassed a .476 (10-for-21) batting average with a trio of RBI and two runs scored over that span as well.
