Bears Rally In 7th To Take Series At Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Visiting Mercer put together its 12^th double-digit hit attack of the season and scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to grab a series-clinching 6-4 win over Southern Conference-leading Chattanooga on Sunday afternoon at Frost Stadium.

The victory vaulted the Bears (21-23, 10-5 SoCon) into a tie for first place with the Mocs in the SoCon regular season standings, while also marking the fourth-straight season that MU has captured the regular season series with UTC. Chattanooga (30-13, 10-5) has now dropped 12 of the last 15 matchups in the series with the Bears.

Grace Taylor (10-10) struck out three and allowed just two hits and an unearned run in three innings of relief to pick up the win for Mercer. Starter Hannah Pitts yielded just three hits and a pair of earned runs across four innings from the circle, but was not awarded a decision.

Janessa Plummer and Alyssa Woods both turned in 2-for-4 hitting lines to pace the MU offensive effort. Woods highlighted her day with a triple and a pair of runs scored.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 7	Mercer got a leadoff double from Laura Vigna and a 1-out single from Janessa Plummer to get a rally started, and Emma Dorval gave the Bears a lead they would not relinquish on a run-scoring single to the gap in left field. Kassidy Moore added a pair of insurance runs in the ensuing at-bat when she leaned into a 1-strike offering from UTC reliever Alyssa Lavdis and sent it over the right field wall.

The Bears will close out the road portion of their regular season schedule on Saturday and Sunday when they head to western North Carolina to take on UNC Greensboro (27-21, 9-6 SoCon) in a three-game series at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
