GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro registered a trio of home runs, including a go-ahead 3-run blast in the bottom of the first inning, to finish off a doubleheader sweep of visiting Mercer with a 7-4 victory over the Bears in the second half of a series-opening doubleheader on Saturday at the UNCG Softball Stadium.

The Spartans forged a 5-1 lead in Saturday's opener, and held off a furious late-inning rally by the Bears to tally a 7-5 victory.

The setbacks dropped the Bears (21-25, 10-7 SoCon) into third place in the Southern Conference regular season standings. Mercer will look to salvage the weekend against the Spartans on Sunday in a 1 p.m. series finale. UNC Greensboro (29-22, 11-6) has now captured 10 of the last 11 matchups in the all-time series with MU, including east of the last six meetings in Greensboro.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 1)
BOT 4	The Spartans got a pair of runners aboard with two outs, then blew the game wide open with three consecutive run-scoring at-bats. Maycin Brown hit a run-scoring single to centerfield, Blayke Batten followed with a 2-run double to the gap in left field and Anna White capped the scoring with a 2-run homer to straightaway centerfield.

KEY INNINGS (GAME 2)
BOT 1	UNC Greensboro drew a pair of walks to open the ballgame, but Mercer starter Hannah Pitts appeared to get control back until Betsy Eatmon leaned into an offering four pitches later and sent it over the wall in centerfield.
