GREENSBORO, N.C. – Home-standing UNC Greensboro plated a trio of runs in the middle innings to provide more than enough run support for a 5-hit performance from right-hander Maddie Spell, and the Spartans finished off a series sweep of visiting Mercer with a 3-2 win over the Bears on Sunday afternoon.

The setback snapped the lid on the road portion of the regular season schedule for the Bears (21-26, 10-8 SoCon) who will return home next weekend for a weekend series against league nemesis Samford. UNC Greensboro (30-22, 12-6) tallied its 18^th home win of the season on Sunday.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 3	Brooklyn Maxwell reached via leadoff single, and quickly moved to third base on an ensuing passed ball and a sacrifice bunt. Grace Loftin's sacrifice fly moments later gave the hosts a lead they would not relinquish.
BOT 4	Maycin Brown hit a 1-out solo homer to double UNC Greensboro's lead, but the Spartans used two walks, a double and an ill-timed error by the Bears to eventually tack up another insurance run.

UP NEXT
The Bears will close out the regular season portion of their 2024 schedule next weekend, May 4-5, when they battle league rival Samford (18-29, 10-8 SoCon) in a weekend series at Sikes Field. The squads will open up the set with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, and close out the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
