ATHENS – Third-ranked Georgia broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the bottom of the third inning to provide more than enough offense for its four-armed pitching staff as the Bulldogs knocked off visiting Mercer, 8-1, on Wednesday evening at Jack Turner Stadium.

It was just the second loss in the last five outings for the Bears (15-19) who will play seven of their next eight games at home. Georgia (30-6) improved to 20-4 at home this season with the result, and is now 23-1 all-time in the series with the Orange & Black.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 3	The Bulldogs put their first two batters aboard, then took the lead for good seven pitches later on a RBI single from Jayda Kearney. UGA followed with three consecutive run-scoring at-bats to take a 4-0 lead into the fourth.

UP NEXT
The Bears will return home on Saturday and Sunday for a key three-game series against Southern Conference rival Furman (18-18, 3-3 SoCon). The squads will open the weekend set with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, and close out the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
