Bears Fall to Georgia Southern in Match Play

Statesboro, Ga. – The Bears opened their 2024 fall schedule on Monday, taking on Georgia Southern in match play at Forest Heights Country Club. The event consisted of fourball play in the morning followed by singles matches in the afternoon. Georgia Southern was victorious in both sessions with a 5-0 victory in fourball and a 7.5-2.5 victory in singles.

In the morning session, the duo of J.T. Herman and Cole Hanson took their Eagles counterparts to the wire. The match was all square going into the 17^th hole, but Georgia Southern's Elijah Zamarron and Luke Koenig won the hole to take the victory.

In singles play, Henry Robards used four birdies through 17 holes to take the victory. The freshman shot 67 over his 17 holes.

Three Bears – Charlie Fischer, Jacob Uyesato and J.T. Herman – halved in their singles matches with scores of 75, 70 and 72, respectively.

Despite falling in his matchup, Connor Holcroft shot the lowest round of all Bears to play 18 holes with a 69. The redshirt sophomore recorded four birdies in his round.

The Bears play their first tournament of the season when they head to Pawleys Island, S.C on Sunday for the Golfweek Fall Challenge. The three-day tournament will be played at True Blue Golf Club.
