LAST TIME OUT
Tyler Johnson and Ahmad Robinson combined to score 51 points to help lead the Mercer Bears to a 99-94 overtime win over Chattanooga in the SoCon opener Wednesday afternoon from Hawkins Arena.
After Chattanooga hit a game-tying shot to beat the buzzer in regulation and force overtime, Mercer never wavered, outscoring the Mocs 14-9 in overtime to earn a hard-fought win to start 1-0 in conference play this season.
NEED TO KNOW
After scoring 99 points in the conference opening win against Chattanooga, the Bears have now scored 90+ points in five games this season.
SCOUTING VMI
VMI enters Saturday's game with a 6-8 record, including an 0-1 mark in conference play. The Keydets are coming off an 84-69 loss at ETSU on Wednesday.
The Keydets have been much better at home than on the road this season as they are 4-1 at home and just 1-6 away from Lexington. VMI has one common Division I opponent with the Bears this season in Queens who the Keydets lost to by a final of 81-78.
VMI is averaging 79.1 points per game which ranks fourth in the SoCon while allowing 72.1 points per game which ranks fifth in the conference. VMI does a great job of getting to the free throw line as they make a conference best 13.9 free throws per game.
Offensively, VMI has three players averaging double figures led by sophomore forward Augustinas Kiudulas who averages 14.9 points per game. He also leads the team with 6.5 rebounds per game.
