Scouting the Bears
Mercer (2-6-3, 0-0-1 SoCon) began Southern Conference play at Betts Stadium last Saturday against then ranked No. 7 Furman. Gavin Morgan's right foot gave the Bears an early 1-0 lead. The Paladins found the equalizer in the 78th minute to split the result.
Three attackers sit at the top of the leaderboard with two goals apiece for Mercer. Junior Casillas, Tolu Adeyemi and Ehi Aimiuwu all have found the back of the net twice for the Bears this season.
Casillas sits alone on the throne with four assists; however, Liam Corr follows closely behind with three of his own. After assisting Morgan's strike on Saturday, Fernando Arteaga and Will Taylor tied six of their teammates for the third-most assists on the squad.
Henry Hampshaw has made the transition to the Division I level look seamless. His 44 saves against D1Â opponents are the 24th most in the country. Hampshaw trails only Zack Murphy of VMI for the most in the SoCon (46).
Taking a look at the Terriers
Wofford (5-6-1, 1-0-0 SoCon) enters Saturday's contest 2-1-1 in its last four matches. The Terriers opened conference play with a 2-0 victory over VMI last Saturday. Stewart Patnaud and Nathan Simes finished as Wofford's goal scorers.
Simes, a senior forward, leads the Terriers with seven goals. The Fordham transfer has the 13th-most goals in the nation in his second season at Wofford.Â
Kalle Rahbek's five assists is the highest mark on Wofford. The sophomore from Odense, Denmark has 10 goal contributions since coming to Spartanburg and has been a key piece in the Terriers' squad.
Pepe Hinterschuster earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career. A native of Neustrelitz, Germany, Hinterschuster made a season-high seven saves in Wofford's 2-1 victory over Queens University of Charlotte and added two more in the Terriers' 2-0 win over VMI.
