
Hot-Shooting Bears Too Much For Visiting Lipscomb

All Five Starters Register Double-Figure Point Totals
MACON – Home-standing Mercer shot 57 percent from the field in both halves and used a 13-4 run right before halftime to pull away for good as the Bears won for the second time in five days with a 92-77 decision over Lipscomb on Sunday afternoon in Hawkins Arena.

Mercer (2-1) logged a trio of double-double performances on the afternoon, including a 16-point, 12-assist day from newcomer Baraka Okojie. Junior transfer Armani Mighty registered a conventional double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, as did sophomore Brady Shoulders who turned in 14 points and 10 boards.

The Orange & Black won the rebounding column for the first time this season, 35-31, and committed just eight fouls on the afternoon. All five starters reached double-digit scoring numbers on the afternoon for the hosts, including graduate transfer Zaire Williams who tacked up 19 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
Mercer shot 56.9 percent from the floor in the opening half, but was unable to shake the pesky Bisons until late in the period. Ethan Duncan pulled the visitors to within a bucket, 33-31, on a short-range jumper with 5-1/2 minutes left before the intermission, but Armani Mighty's hookshot jumper on the other end of the court sparked the Bears on a 13-4 half-ending run that gave the hosts a 46-35 edge heading into the locker rooms.
2ND HALF
Lipscomb trimmed an 11-point halftime deficit down to five, 55-50, on a jumper from Charlie Williams at the 14:37 mark, but it was all Mercer after that. The Bears pushed their lead back out to double digits for good on two free throws from Zaire Williams three minutes later, and led by as many as 18 points, 87-69, following a 3-pointer from Williams with 2-1/2 minutes to play.

+ Mercer notched 20 or more assists for the second-straight game – the first time the program has reached that plateau in consecutive outings since registering 21 and 23 assists against Columbia International and Southern Wesleyan early in the 2020-21 season.
