Mercer Routs Alabama State To Open MUSB Invitational

MACON – Host Mercer pounded out 12 hits and scored 17 times behind sophomore right-hander Grace Roark's first career shutout and the Bears registered their most lopsided win in seven years with a 17-0 rout of Alabama State in the opening game of the 2025 MUSB Invitational on Thursday evening at Sikes Field.

It was the largest margin of victory for the Bears (6-4) since a 21-2 home win over Savannah State on Feb. 26, 2017, and the most runs by MU since crossing the plate 17 times in a 15-score throttling of Fort Wayne during the 2018 campaign. The setback extended Alabama State's (0-11) season-opening skid out to 11 games, while the Hornets also fell to 4-29 all-time in the 25-year-old series with the Bears.
