
Bears Set To Face Army In Southwest Florida Shootout

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer men's lacrosse team will travel to Naples, Fla. to face Army for the 2025 Southwest Florida Shootout on Saturday, Feb. 22 at noon.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's game will be the third meeting these two squads. Army leads the series 2-0 following the last matchup between these two teams on February 24, 2024 when the Black Knights defeated the Bears 15-7 on their home turf. The first match up between these two teams came two years ago in 2023 where Army beat Mercer at Five Star Stadium, 16-5.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bears hosted VMI on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Five Star Stadium for the 2025 home opener. Despite a fourth quarter battle to come within two goals, the Bears fell to the Keydets 11-14.
Nine different players found the back of the net for the the Bears, led by sophomore Dillon Bush who posted four goals. Dylan McKelvy, Ben Jose, Jackson Hirschy, Jack Sullivan, Christian Laureano, Will Zylstra and Michael Frederick all added a goal of their own on the afternoon. Between the pipes, senior goalkeeper Rand Paddack recorded 11 saves.
SCOUTING ARMY
The Black Knights are led by Joe Alberici who enters his 20th season at the helm for Army. The Black Knights finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 11-3 and a 6-2 record in the Patriot League. Army currently sits with a record of 3-0 with wins over University of Massachusetts, Rutgers and Yale. The Black Knights have won by at least nine points in all three contests.
The leading goal scorer, currently, for the Black Knights is freshman Brayden Fountain with 11 goals and four assists across two games. Following closely behind is Jackson Eicher who has 14 points with seven goals and seven assists on the season. On the defensive side of the field, Christian Fournier has 10 groundballs and eight caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Damian Levin has recorded 38 saves across three games.
