Bears Travel To New York To Take On Marist

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer men's lacrosse team will travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to face Marist for game two of the 2025 season on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 11 a.m.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's game will be the first ever meeting between these two squads. Marist is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference which consists of schools from New York, Maryland and Connecticut, including Mount St. Mary's, Canisius and Sacred Heart.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bears opened the 2025 season on Saturday, Feb. 1 with a dominant win over Hampton defeating the Pirates 23-3. Sophomore Dillon Bush and freshman Will Zylstra led the offense for the Bears with four goals each.
13 different Bears found the back of the net for Mercer with Luke Fox, Jack Sullivan, Ben Jose and Ryan Brooks scoring two goals a piece. The defense was on lockdown leaving Hampton scoreless after the first quarter and Christopher Cappelmann had a stellar game at the X going 13-16 (.8125%) with six ground balls setting up the Bears for their first win of the season.
SCOUTING MARIST
The Red Foxes are led by Dave Scarcello who enters his first season at the helm for Marist. The Red Foxes finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 8-7 and a 5-4 record in the MAAC conference. Their final game last season was against Siena on April 27, resulting in a 9-12 loss for Marist in the quarterfinal round of the MAAC Tournament.
The Red Foxes return their leading goal scorer in graduate student Joshua Balcarcel who posted 30 goals, 21 assists and 24 ground balls for Marist last season. The Red Foxes also welcome back attackman Collin Patrick who registered 18 goals, 17 assists and 36 ground balls in his freshman campaign along with defenseman Aiden McCaffrey who tallied 48 ground balls and 34 caused turnovers last season. Balcarcel and McCaffrey were named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
