
Mercer Drops Match, 5-2 to East Carolina

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match at home to East Carolina, 5-2 Tuesday afternoon from the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
In doubles play, East Carolina's Anne Lou Champion and Martina Muzzolon defeated Marie Bannmeyer and Kennedi Jones, 6-0. Then on court two, Isabella Ortiz and Lilly Lancaster of East Carolina defeated Tea Zivic and Jelena Gojkovic, 6-3.
Ines Bachir Bouhali / Xenia JerominThe last doubles match went unfinished on court one with the score tied at four between Mercer's Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg and East Carolina's Ines Bachir Bouhali and Xenia Jeromin.
In singles matches, Tea Zivic was forced to retire due to injury in the first set which gave the Pirates a 2-0 lead. On court one, East Carolina's Ines Bachir Bouhali defeated de Diego Quinones, 6-0, 6-3 to put the Pirates one point away from winning the match.
Xenia Jeromin clinched the match for East Carolina on court six with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ines Hömberg. Two of the last three matches went to a three set tiebreaker. Isabella Ortiz of ECU defeated Marie Bannmeyer, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (8).
Jelena Gojkovic won the first match of the day for the Bears with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Anne Lou Champion of ECU. The last match to finish was on court five where Lea von Kozierowski defeated Joan Madi of ECU in a three set thriller, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10).
Mercer returns to SoCon action on Sunday, March 6 as the Bears host Chattanooga for an 11 a.m. start time.
