ATLANTA – Visiting Mercer plated five runs on six hits in the first two innings alone and never looked back as the Bears registered their first win over Georgia Tech in 12 years with an 8-5 triumph over the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday evening at Shirley Clements Mewborn Field.

Tuesday's win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Bears (18-16) in the series, and handed Mercer its first win over its instate rival since taking both ends of a home-and-home series with the Yellow Jackets during the 2013 campaign. The setback also put the kibosh on a four-game home win streak for Georgia Tech (19-13) who rolled into Tuesday boasting two wins over nationally-ranked opponents in 2025.

Junior Hannah Pitts (5-3) yielded just one hit in 2-1/3 innings of relief to grab the win for the Bears, while senior Grace Taylor worked a scoreless seventh frame to notch a save for the second time in three days.

KEY INNINGS
TOP 1	Parris Wiggs (walk) and Tori Hedgecock (single) both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch in the first, and Mercer took the lead four pitches later on a rocket single by Grace Jones through the right side. Sietske Drijvers followed with a shot up the middle to plate Hedgecock from third base, and Madi Wicker finished off the damage two batters later on a 2-run double to the gap in left field.
TOP 4	Parris Wiggs (double) and Tori Hedgecock (walk) both reached base safely to lead off the fourth, and Sietske Drijvers struck again two batters later, this time with a double off of the wall in centerfield that pushed Mercer's advantage out to 7-3.

UP NEXT
The Bears will be back in action again this weekend when they host a key Southern Conference series against league nemesis Chattanooga (22-9, 2-1 SoCon) at Sikes Field. The squads will open up the three-game set with a 2 p.m. Saturday twinbill, and close out the series on Sunday with a single game at 2 p.m. Admission to all three contests is free.
