Chattanooga Takes Both Ends Of Twinbill With Mercer
3/29/2025 8:37:00 PM | Softball
MACON – Visiting Chattanooga rode the shoulders of a 2-hit performance from Southern Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year Peja Goold to a 2-1 win in the opener, and then used a pair of multi-run frames to register a 6-0 win in the nightcap and finish off a series-opening doubleheader sweep of Mercer on Saturday at Sikes Field.
Â
Saturday's setbacks marked the second and third consecutive home losses for the Bears (18-18, 1-4 SoCon) who combined to register five hits and 10 walks across the twinbill. The league-leading Mocs (24-9, 4-1) have now captured 22 of their last 24 games and moved to 16-4 away from Chattanooga with Saturday's results as well.

| KEY INNINGS (GAME 1) | |
| TOP 3 | Chattanooga used a pair of singles and an intermittent sacrifice bunt to move a pair of runners into scoring position with just one out showing, then pushed across a pair of runs when Parris Wiggs hauled in a deep fly ball off of the bat of Olivia Lipari. The scoring play was aided on an apparent injury to Wiggs who fell to the turf after making the acrobatic catch. |
| BOT 4 | Tori Hedgecock broke up UTC starter Peja Goold's perfect game when she leaned into a 2-out, full-count offering and delivered it wall over the wall in centerfield. |
| KEY INNINGS (GAME 2) | |
| TOP 1 | Camryn Cernuto climbed aboard via a 1-out single and moved all the way over to third base on ill-timed passed balls before Chattanooga took the lead for good on a double from Acelynn Sellers. Jayce Purdy's 2-out RBI single two batters later pushed the lead out to a pair of runs. |
