
Mercer Clinches Share Of Big South Regular Season Title With Win Over Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. - Caroline Glus and Abby Morrison each scored five goals to lift the Mercer Bears to a dominant 19-1 win at Longwood Saturday afternoon from Farmville, Virginia.
With the win, Mercer clinched a share of the 2025 Big South Regular Season championship as the Bears finished the regular season 7-1 in the Big South. Mercer shares the regular season title with High Point and Furman. It is Mercer's fourth straight season with at least a share of the Big South regular season title.
Mercer controlled the game from the start and took a season high 46 shots to just 12 for Longwood. The Bears were excellent in the draw circle with a 19-4 advantage.
In addition to Glus and Morrison scoring five goals each, Sofia D'Angelo finished with four points (2G, 2A). All three players for the Bears, finished the regular season with at least 50 points.
Defensively, Fiona Tanis and Kayla Casey had two caused turnovers each. Casey made three saves in goal and allowed just one goal in the cage for the Bears.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a bit of a slow start offensively for Mercer who led just 1-0 with four minutes to go in the first quarter. Glus and Morrison combined to score all four goals in the first quarter for the Bears who led 4-0 after the first 15 minutes.
Morrison and Sami Lowinger scored two goals each, in just over a three minute span to give Mercer an 8-0 lead. The Bears would take a commanding 9-1 lead into halftime.
Ansley Walters and D'Angelo each scored in the opening minutes of the third quarter to give Mercer an 11-1 lead. Mercer kept the offensive barrage going and led 15-1 after the third quarter.
Gabby Brisbin scored twice in the fourth quarter and redshirt freshman Emma Dean scored her first career goal in the quarter as well as Mercer rolled to a 19-1 win to finish the regular season.
NOTABLES
Mercer will wait to find out what seed it will be in the Big South Tournament as Mercer, High Point and Furman all finished 7-1 in the Big South. With each team going 1-1 against the others, the tiebreaker will be decided by who has the best RPI which will be updated Sunday morning following the conclusion of all NCAA games Saturday.
