MACON – Hallie Langford, Grace Jones and Hannah Rivers all hit homers amid a big offensive day that helped support a gem of an outing from Gabby Ellis in the circle as Mercer registered a series-clinching 7-0 shutout of visiting UNC Greensboro on Sunday at Sikes Field.

It was the ninth win in the last 11 outings for the Bears (28-23, 8-9 SoCon) who picked up their third-straight Southern Conference series victory of the campaign, including their first over the Spartans since taking the first two games of a weekend set their league rivals on April 8, 2017. It is just the second league series loss for the Spartans (36-16, 12-6) who have now dropped consecutive road games for the first time since early March.

Sunday's win also marked the second-straight shutout loss for the Spartans – the first time that has happened since dropping consecutive games with Boston University and Towson on Feb. 15, 2020.

Ellis (8-5) won for the third time in her last four starts, this time delivering a masterful performance that saw her strike out three and yield just four hits across her fifth complete game of the season. The sophomore faced the minimum across four different frames on Sunday.

KEY INNINGS
BOT 3	UNCG starter Jorde Chartrand sat down each of the first two Bears she faced, but Hallie Langford gave the hosts the lead for good when she got all of a 1-and-1 offering and deposited it just over the wall in right field.
BOT 6	Mercer loaded the bases with its first three at-bats of the frame to set the table for Grace Jones who hammered a 2-strike offering to centerfield to give the Bears a 5-0 advantage. Hannah Rivers 2-run blast three batters later capped the scoring on the afternoon.
