GREENVILLE, S.C. – Visiting Mercer plated lone runs in the first and fifth innings to tough out a 2-0 win in the opener, and then went buck wild in the scoring column on the way to a series-clinching 16-0 rout in the nightcap, as the Bears registered a weekend-opening doubleheader sweep of Furman to reach the 30-win plateau for the first time in seven years.
Â
It was the 10th and 11th wins in the last 13 outings for Mercer (30-23, 10-9 SoCon) who tacked up its fourth-straight Southern Conference series win on Saturday as well. Furman (15-36, 5-15) has now dropped 14 of its last 16 contests, as well as six-straight in the series with the Orange & Black.
