Mercer Travels To South Carolina To Open Fall Season

MACON – The men's golf team opens their fall slate with the Golfweek Fall Challenge at the True Blue Golf Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. The Golfweek Fall Challenge is a three-day tournament, going from Sunday, September 7 through Tuesday, September 9.

Mercer participated in this tournament last year as well, finishing tied for fifth out of 15 programs. Some other teams that made up the field included Arkansas State (1st place, 35-under), Wright State (2nd place, 23-under) and Austin Peay (3rd place, 17-under).
"We have some familiarity with the course and it's a course where you can shoot some low numbers," said head coach Jason Payne. "For some of the guys, this will be the third time they have played there in the past twelve months."
The Bears' leaders in last year's tournament are both returning to the squad for the 2025-26 season. Henry Robards shot a four-under 68 on the final day to finish tied for 19th individually. Nathan Trodd shot an even 72 in his final round and secured a 23rd-place finish.
Mercer has a roster of five returners and five newcomers, including newly appointed assistant coach Matt Ariza. Junior Albin Ekvall and senior Josemaria Gutierrez are transferring in from the D3 and D2 levels, respectively. Freshmen Teddy Dunn and Macon native Phillips Swift round out the rest of the new faces.
 "The six guys that will be competing for us this tournament earned their spot through our internal qualifying process," Payne said. "There were some good scores throughout qualifying and we are excited to get started."
