OXFORD, Miss. – Seniors Hod'Abalo Isak Padio and Nemanja Stefanovic both forced a deciding third set in singles play before succumbing, but unbeaten Ole Miss swept through action the rest of the way out on the way to a 7-0 victory over the visiting Bears on Friday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
Â
It was the fifth loss in as many outings this season for Mercer (0-5) who will open up a lengthy home stand on Monday in south Macon. The Rebels (10-0) kept their unblemished record intact with the decision, while also improving to 7-0 in Oxford, Miss., this season.
Â
Stefano D'Agostino/Pietro Pampanin took care of things at No. 2 doubles and the 18th-ranked duo of Isac Stromberg/Kai Milburn triumphed in the featured doubles match minutes later to give the hosts the early 1-0 lead on the team scoreboard.
Â
Ole Miss put away a trio of quick straight-sets singles wins on Court Nos. 3, 4 and 5 to ice the final outcome, and then stretched its lead out to 6-0 with a straight-sets triumph at No. 6 singles as well. Padio battled back from an opening-set loss in the featured singles matchup with a 6-4 victory in the second set, but fell on the wrong end of a 10-1 superset.
Â
Stefanovic captured his opening set with Matthieu Chambonniere at No. 2 singles, but the Ole Miss sophomore took a 6-2 decision in the second set before capturing a 10-7 superset.
Â
The Bears will open up a three-match home stand on Wednesday when they make their way to the Randy Stephens Tennis Center for a 2:30 p.m. men's and women's simultaneous matchup against Young Harris. First serves are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and admission is free.Â
