"It's been a few months since we have competed, however, we have spent the past few months playing a lot of golf to familiarize ourselves with cold and wet conditions," said head coach Jason Payne. "Our guys have been able to rise to the occasion, posting some impressive scores in qualifying and I am ready to see them put it together on the course. This past fall, we have seen some really good individual performances, but we have not gotten to see the true potential of what this team could do together as a whole."
The Bears have not competed since October 19, 2025, where they finished tied for 7th of 15 teams at the Furman Intercollegiate. Mercer had two players finish in the Top-10, led the field in scoring on all Par 3s and finished with the second-most pars in the event.
Henry Robards finished tied for 5th individually out of 87 competitors with a score of even-par. The sophomore from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, opened the tournament with a three-under 68 in the first round. Robards finished the Furman Intercollegiate tied for the fourth-best stroke average across all Par 4s.
Cole Hanson finished tied for 9th after shooting one-over the entire tournament. The graduate senior shot deep in the red in round two, carding a four-under 67 with seven birdies. Hanson concluded the event with tied for the third-best scoring average on Par 3s and tied with the eighth-most birdies (11).
After months of training and internal qualifying, the Bears have decided on their lineup to begin the spring slate of tournaments. Albin Ekvall, a junior transfer from Barry College, is set to make his Mercer debut this event. The Helsingborg, Sweden, native was named Barry's Freshman of the Year in 2023 and helped the Buccaneers life the Sunshine State Conference Championship in '24.
