HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Henry Robards' bogey-free round headlined the third round for the Mercer men's golf team at the Wexford Intercollegiate.
The sophomore from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, posted a spotless five-under 67 in the final round at Wexford Golf Club to finish tied for third out of 90 individuals. Robards maintained the second-best scoring average on all Par 3s as well as the third-best scoring average on all Par 5s.
"Henry had a great tournament this week," said head coach Jason Payne. "It is always a good thing when you are in contention for the trophy heading into the final day, however, we want to keep taking the right steps to better ourselves each week."
Cole Hanson finished tied for ninth with a score of even par. Albin Ekvall finished tied for 38th in his first tournament since transferring to Mercer. The junior transfer settled in on the back nine, recording a pair of birdies on holes 10 and 18.
Mercer finished the Wexford Intercollegiate in fourth place of 18 teams, eleven strokes behind the lead. As a unit, the Bears had the best scoring average on all Par 3s and tied for the third-most birdies (41) in the field.
The Bears are idle for the remainder of February with their next tournament scheduled for March 9 and 10 when they travel to Aiken, South Carolina to compete in the Palmetto Intercollegiate.Â
