Gutierrez Impresses In Debut, Bears In Fifth After Two Rounds At Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. – The Mercer men's golf team continued its spring season with the opening two rounds of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate on Monday, March 9. Josemaria Gutierrez shined in his first 36 holes representing Mercer.
The senior transfer from Barton College opened the tournament with four birdies and a score of even par. Gutierrez followed up his solid opening round with a four-under 66. The Mexico City, Mexico, native eagled hole two and carded five more birdies throughout the round to propel himself into fifth of 75 individuals.
Nathan Trodd is the Bears' second-leading scorer with a score of one over after two rounds. Cole Hanson trails closely behind at two-over par heading into the final 18 holes.
Mercer is currently 10 strokes behind the leading Campbell Camels with one more round to play at the Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, South Carolina. The final round of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate is scheduled to begin as a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10. You can follow along with scoring here.
