Bears Finish In Fourth At Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. – Josemaria Gutierrez and Albin Ekvall led the Mercer men's golf team on the final day of the 2026 Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate to secure the Bears' fourth place finish of 15 teams at the Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, South Carolina.
Gutierrez, a senior from Mexico City, Mexico, finished his first tournament as a Mercer Bear tied for fourth individually after carding an even par 70 in the final round. Gutierrez led the Bears with 11 birdies and two eagles throughout the competition.
Ekvall, a junior from Helsinborg, Sweden, joined Gutierrez as the only Bears to score even par or better in Tuesday's round. Ekvall finished the final round of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate with a score of even par and tied for 39th individually.
Nathan Trodd finished as Mercer's second-best individual throughout the two-day event. Trodd ended his play in Aiken, South Carolina, tied for 21st individually with a score of three over par.
After heading into day two of the tournament with a score of 11 over par, Henry Robards bounced back and turned in a one over par 71 with two birdies.
The Bears have a quick turnaround this week with The Southern Intercollegiate coming up on Monday, March 16. The Southern Intercollegiate is a one-day (two-round) event at the Athens Country Club hosted by the Georgia Bulldogs.
