Mercer Heads to Athens For Southern Intercollegiate

MACON – After finishing fourth of 15 teams in the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate, the men's golf team is set to hop on US 129 to compete in the Southern Intercollegiate at the Athens Country Club in Athens, Georgia.

Mercer recently concluded play in the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate. The Bears finished fourth of 15 total teams in Aiken, South Carolina. Josemaria Gutierrez excelled in his first competition repping the Bears.

Gutierrez, a senior transfer from Barton College, finished the event as the only Bear to finish each round even par or better. The Mexico City, Mexico, native shot a four-under 66 in the second round to propel himself towards a fourth-place finish.

Nathan Trodd finished as Mercer's second-leading scorer at three over par. Trodd shot a one-under 69 in round two and finished tied for 21st individually.
