Bears Head To Aiken For Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

MACON – After spending the previous few weeks qualifying, the Mercer Bears hit the road to compete in the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, South Carolina.

"The Palmetto always represents that part of our schedule where we have officially reached Spring and finally get some good golf weather again," said head coach Jason Payne. "We are familiar with this course and have found some success there in the past. Henry and Cole have been playing well so we want to continue that trend as we integrate some newer faces into our lineup."

The Bears began their spring slate of tournaments with the Wexford Intercollegiate on February 16-17. Mercer finished fourth of 18 teams with a score of 11-over par. Henry Robards headlined the Bears' performances with a bogey-free 67 in the final round of the competition that propelled him into third individually.

Cole Hanson joined Robards in the top 10. The senior from Grand Forks, North Dakota, finished the first two rounds at four-under par and ended the tournament ninth individually with a score of even par.
Albin Ekvall made his Mercer debut at the Wexford Intercollegiate and ended the tournament tied for 38^th individually. The Helsingborg, Sweden, native transferred to Mercer ahead of the season and shot nine-over par in his first collegiate competition since October 29, 2024.

Josemaria Gutierrez is set to make his Mercer debut after a great stretch of qualifying. A native of Mexico City, Mexico, Gutierrez made the move to Macon after spending the previous two seasons with Barton College.
Nathan Trodd earned his spot back in the lineup after missing the Wexford Intercollegiate. The senior from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, has a 72.4 scoring average this season and has played 41 rounds of golf donning the orange and black.
