
Bears Win Convincingly, 18-5 Over Kennesaw State

Mercer picks up its first win of the season
KENNESAW, Ga. - The Mercer women's lacrosse earned its first win of the season in convincing fashion in a resounding 18-5 win at Kennesaw State, Wednesday evening from Fifth Third Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgai.
Mercer led 12-0 at halftime and was able to get a lot of players playing time in the second half. Three Mercer players scored their first career goal in the win.
Mercer outshot Kennesaw State 34-15, including a 23-11 shots on goal advantage. The draw controls were even with each team winning 12. Mercer's offense was well balance as 13 different players accounted for the Bears' 18 goals. No player had more than three goals for the Bears.
Caroline Glus, Sofia D'Angelo, Gabby Brisbin, Ansley Walters and Abby Vane were the five Mercer players to score two goals in the game. Kaileigh Wallace had a season high three draw controls to lead the Beas in draws on the day. Sarah Stefancik, Ellie Foresman, and Avery Adkin all scored their first career goal in the fourth quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer got out to a fast start and led 4-0 less than four minutes into the game. Abbi Rupnow and Vane each scored in the final two minutes of the half as six different Bears scored to account for the six first quarter goals.
Glus found Josie Parret who took a great shot from outside the 8-meter that went top corner for her first goal of the season to put the Bears up, 9-0. D'Angelo scored from the free position with just over one minute to go in the first half to put the finishing touches on a nearly flawless first half as Mercer led 12-0.
Kennesaw State came out of the half with a strong start, going on a 3-0 run in the first six minutes of the second half. Glus and Brisbin each scored their second goal of the game and Mercer led 14-3 after the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Bears outscored the Owls, 4-2 with three of Mercer's goals coming from first time goal-scorers in Stefancik, Foresman, and Adkin.
NOTABLES
Mercer continues its 5-game road trip next Wednesday as the Bears will head down to DeLand, Florida to play Stetson on March 4. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
