Visiting Furman Too Much For Bears

MACON – Senior Nemanja Stefanovic and sophomore Shingo Masuda both turned in straight-sets wins in singles action, but visiting Furman surrendered just seven games in sweeping through doubles action, and then tacked on a quarter of singles wins, to fuel a 5-2 win over the Bears on Tuesday afternoon at the Copelan Tennis Complex.
Â
The setback snapped a three-match home win streak for Mercer (4-10, 0-2 SoCon) who has now faltered in five of its last six outings. The decision snapped a two-match skid for the Paladins (5-10, 2-0) who have now won three-straight road matchups.
Â
Evan Duggal and Landon Ecarma built a 5-1 lead before finishing off a 6-2 win on Court No. 2, and Nicolas Dispas and Nico Snyder followed with a similar 6-3 victory in the featured doubles matchup to claim the early 1-0 lead on the team scoreboard.
Â
Stefanovic yielded just one game in posting a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Theophile Joly to even up the match early in singles action, but the Paladins answered back with Duggal's 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Alex Aldaz on Court No. 4. Masuda's 6-4, 6-1 win over Dispas at No. 3 singles evened things back up on the team scoreboard once again, but the Paladins raked in the remaining singles points, including two via straight sets.
Â
Mercer is back in action again on Thursday when it treks to southeast Alabama to take on Sun Belt Conference foe Troy (12-4). First serves are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. ET.
