MACON – The Mercer Bears travel to Greenville, South Carolina, to begin Southern Conference play the league's reigning champions, the Furman Paladins, this Saturday at Stone Stadium.

Last season, the Paladins traveled to Macon, Georgia, and the two teams split the result, 1-1. Furman entered this season ranked as the No. 3 team in the country after its miraculous run to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament last year. Diego Hernandez, a member of the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list, leads the Paladins with four goals and nine points.
