Bears Fall To Georgia State Despite Offensive Onslaught

ATLANTA, Ga. – Despite firing off 16 shots and landing nine shots on goal, the Mercer men's soccer team fell, 1-0, to Georgia State at GSU Soccer Complex in Atlanta, Georgia.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears came off the bus ready to roll and attempted three shots in the first three minutes of the match, which forced Georgia State's Jackson Burrell to make his first two saves of the night. Mercer rattled off four more shots before the 20th minute mark.
The Panthers won a penalty in the 37th minute. Virgil Dall'Agnol stepped up to the spot, but Henry Hampshaw denied the fifth-year midfielder's attempt. Dall'Agnol found the rebound and directed it home to give Georgia State a 1-0 lead.
Both teams battled for possession, and the next real scoring opportunity came from Colton Ellison in the 59th minute. Ellison found himself through on goal with nobody to beat, but the keeper and Burrell made a last-ditch effort to parry Ellison's shot away. Mercer dominated possession for the final 20 minutes, but could not break the seal and fell 1-0.
