Mercer Hosts Fresno State In Home Opener

MACON, Ga. – The Bears are at Five Star Stadium for the first time this season as the Mercer women's lacrosse team is hosting Fresno State on Sunday morning.

STRONG START
Mercer started its third season off with a bang, cruising past Presbyterian 23-13 last week. This is the second season in which Mercer has won the first game of the year, as the Bears also opened the 2015 campaign with a win.

OUTSTANDING OFFENSE
With its 23 goals in the first game, Mercer leads the nation in scoring offense and also rank No. 1 in points per game (37.00). The Bears also rank first nationally in assists per game (14.00) and draw controls per game (23.00). Mercer currently owns the single-game highs in points 937), assists (14) and draw controls (23) this year.

STELLAR SEGRETI
After a tremendous opening game, Meghan Segreti leads the nation in points per game (9.00) and goals per game (7.00), while ranking first in the ASUN and second nationally in draw controls per game (12.00).

SHARING IS CARING
Mercer's 14 assists against Presbyterian set a national single-game high, while Eva Thorn's five assists earned her the No. 1 national ranking in assists per game. She currently ranks 12th nationally and first in the ASUN in total assists. Thorn has already earned spot on Mercer's single-season assist leaderboard and only needs two more assists to move up to seventh place.

GROUND BALLS APLENTY
The Bears are currently second in the ASUN and third nationally with 27.00 ground balls per game. Haleigh Wurzel leads Mercer and ranks first nationally with 8.00 ground balls per game.

SERIES HISTORY
This will be the first meeting between Mercer and Fresno State. Fresno State is a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, a conference which Mercer has a 1-0 record against after a 17-5 win over St. Mary's last season.

SCOUTING FRESNO STATE
Fresno State has started the season at 2-0 after wins over LIU Brooklyn (15-12) and Stetson (18-9).

Marina Mayo and Tiffiny Wallace lead the Bulldogs with seven goals each. Wallace has added three assists to lead the team with 10 points and Mayo has tallied two assists to rank second with nine points. Sarah Bloise is third for Fresno State with five goals and seven points.

Kayla Galet leads the Bulldogs in the draw circle with nine draw controls, followed closely by Kyleigh Westgarth with eight. Abigail Beregevin has picked up a team-leading seven ground balls, followed by three players with five ground balls apiece.

In goal, Laurel Maunder has made 16 saves and allowed 21 goals for a .432 save percentage.
