The Bears wrap up UCF Tournament with 8-4 loss to the Knights
Â
Mercer fell to 12-15 overall (1-4 at UCF Tournament) after the Knights jumped out to a 7-0 advantage through four innings of play. The Bears scored four runs over the final two frames and finished the contest with 11 hits, but to no avail.
Â
Meghan Rud, Taylor Miller and Shaila Warren all recorded two hits apiece in the No. 1-3 holes of the Bears' lineup. Mercer got on the board in the sixth thanks to a RBI-single by Amanda Schwartz, which scored pinch runner Kate Buckland from third base.
Â
Three straight hits by Miller, Warren and Taylor Rodgers in the top of the seventh sparked the late rally and resulted in RBIs by Abby Walsh and Maxine Rodriguez.
Â
Megan Bilgri (5-2) took the loss after lasting only two innings in the circle before Stella Preston was called upon for relief. Preston tossed the final four frames of the game and struck out four Knights in the process.
Â
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Taylor Miller continues to impress as a reliable bat near the top of the Bears' lineup. Her two-hit performance was her 11th multi-hit game in 18 contests that she has had an at bat this year. The senior also swiped her 17th base of the season, second to only Rud (21) among Southern Conference players in the category.
