Mercer Powers Past UNCG in Doubleheader Sweep

MACON, Ga. – Meghan Rud tied her own school record in stolen bases and Quirisa Mauga blasted her sixth home run of the year as Mercer powered past UNCG, 5-2, to sweep Saturday's doubleheader against the Spartans at Sikes Field.

Rud stole her 31st base of the season with a first inning swipe, tying the Mercer single season record that she set last year. That ranks her tied for sixth nationally and, aside from Mercer's Taylor Miller, no other Southern Conference player entered the week with more than 15 stolen bases.

Mauga was an impressive 2-for-3 at the plate in the second game with a walk while blasting a solo home run in the fifth inning, extending Mercer's lead. The Bears (19-22, 5-3 Southern) clinched the series with the win while UNCG (20-16, 3-2) committed two errors in the loss.

Preston (5-5) was credited with the win after tossing five hitless innings while only allowing one walk and striking out four.
