Bears Host Kennesaw State in Doubleheader Tuesday

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's and women's tennis team will host a double-header against Kennesaw State this Tuesday, Feb. 6. The women's squad will take the courts first, scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the men's matchup at 2 p.m.

The Mercer women's squad will kick off the afternoon, looking to pick up their first home win of the season. Sophomore Marie Mottet enters the match riding a current three-match winning streak. Junior Katie Sidor has started the season strong as well, holding a 2-1 singles mark. Sidor and Anna Sovic are undefeated at the No. 2 doubles position, claiming a 3-0 record.

Kennesaw State's women's side will be searching for their first win of the season Tuesday afternoon. The Owls share one common opponent so far this season in Georgia Southern. While the Bears were fell 4-3 to the Eagles, the Owls were defeated 6-1.

The Mercer men's team enters Tuesday's clash on a four-match winning streak, most recently defeating Alabama State 5-2 on Jan. 26. The Bears' No. 1 singles player Sam Philp has had a phenomenal start to the season, going 3-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles play alongside Olivier Stuart. Junior Fernando Guardia has excelled at the No. 4 singles slot, with a perfect 3-0 record and will enter Tuesday's battle riding a three-match winning streak.

Following Tuesday's matchup, the men's squad will have nearly a two week layoff before continuing their home stand against Georgia Southwestern State Saturday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. The women's team will have a short turnaround hosting Florida Gulf Coast this Friday, Feb. 9, at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
