STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mercer split Friday's doubleheader in a low-scoring affair on Friday, falling to Sam Houston State in game one (1-0) and later defeating Lamar by the final score of 2-1. With the split, Mercer improves to 13-3 on the campaign.

Game 1: Sam Houston State 1, Mercer 0

Megan Lane stepped up as the next batter and with one swing, broke the 0-0 tie with a two-run shot to right center for the 2-0 lead and her third long ball of the season.

The Cardinals trimmed the lead in half in the top of the seventh, but could not bring home the tying run. With runners on first and second and two outs, Meeuwsen singled to bring home Mattox. However, Meeuwsen was gunned down at second trying to extend the play for the final out of the ball game.
