
Bears Battle Bucs in Home SoCon Series

MACON, Ga. – Mercer Softball will turn its attention to hosting the ETSU Bucs in Mercer's SoCon home opener. The Bears will take on the Bucs at Sikes Field with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m. The two competitors will then close the three-game series with a solo contest on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Bears are turning their sights to hostÂing ETSU this weekend, a squad that has bested Mercer in three consecutive outÂings. However, Mercer is 9-3 all-time at Sikes Field when playing the Bucs. The last series in Macon, Ga., went 2-1 in favor of ETSU. The Bucs are 13-14 on the season and 1-1 in conference action. Most reÂcently, ETSU split a Sunday doubleheader with Samford, winning game one 6-3 beÂfore falling 2-1 in game two.
How Sweep it is
The Bears are fresh off a weekend sweep over Chattanooga, the first-ever SoCon sweep for Mercer. The weekend sweep was also the first conference sweep since the Bears downed Florida Gulf Coast in 2013.
Rud to Rood
Meghan Rud and Micayla Rood have been on a tear lately as Rood leads the team with a .352 batting average. The duo combine for 29 runs scored, 52 hits, 12 RBIs and 57 total bases. Meanwhile, Rud continues to climb up the career leaderÂboard at Mercer. Rud already ranks first in stolen bases with 107. The senior outÂfielder is second in career runs (153), third in career hits (233) and walks (88), fourth in career at bats (672) and eighth in total bases accumulated (272).
Senior Leadership
Quirisa Mauga, Caroline Taylor and Meghan Rud are each hitting over .300 for the season. Taylor leads the trio batÂting .321 with seven long balls and 27 runs batted in. Taylor is tied for third in Mercer history for career dingers (38) and is fourth in career RBIs (133). Mauga is currently fourth in career doubles (43) and leads the SoCon with 10 doubles this season.
