Mercer shuts out Panthers, 6-0
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer softball team notched a 6-0 shutout victory against in-state foe Georgia State on Wednesday afternoon at Sikes Field.

Mercer improved to 13-18 overall as it jumped ahead early to defeat the Panthers. The Bears notched their first run of the game in the opening frame when Danielle Castleberry scored on a fielding error after she advanced into scoring position on a single by Allie Jones.

Bailey Pattison and Stella Preston dominated in the circle, scattering seven Panther hits while combining for a shutout. Pattison earned the win as she tossed four frames while Preston closed out the game in three innings.

A five-run second inning was sparked by a solo home run from Amanda Schwartz. Castleberry plated Shaila Warren with a RBI single and was followed by a RBI double from Jones to break the game open. A fielding error later in the inning allowed Mercer to capitalize on two more runs, making it a 6-0 contest by the end of the second inning.
