
Bears Fall at Furman Despite Stuart’s Performance

Olivier Stuart earns singles, doubles wins in Mercer’s 4-2 loss
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mercer junior Olivier Stuart remained undefeated in Southern Conference singles play, but Mercer dropped a 4-2 match to Furman at the Mikel Tennis Center on Monday afternoon.
Mercer rallied to capture the doubles point with wins by No. 1 Olivier Stuart/Nicolas Guillon (6-3) and No. 3 Carver Arant/Fernando Guardia (6-4) after dropping the opening match on court two. A straight-sets singles win on court one by Stuart (6-2, 6-4) helped Mercer jump out to a 2-1 advantage in the match.
The Paladins (14-4, 6-1) would win the following three singles matches, however, to clinch the match. David Georgadze's match on court five went unfinished.
Stuart improved to 14-5 overall and 5-0 in SoCon play at the No. 1 flight. He and Guillon also improved to 4-1 in doubles play against conference foes.
