Mercer dropped its in-state battle with Georgia State
MACON, GA. – The Mercer men's tennis dropped its home opener, 7-0, to Georgia State on Sunday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center on the campus of Mercer University.
Mercer opened up strong as they took the first doubles match of the day. Andrew Branicki and Samuel Macleod defeated Vazha Shubladze and Harvey Maughan, 6-2, in No. 2 doubles. Needing only one more doubles to win to take the point, the Bears looked to win either No. 1 or No. 3. However, the Panthers took both putting Georgia State ahead, 1-0.
Heading to singles, the Bears' Lucas Wayenburg put together a tremendous showing at No. 1 singles in set one before falling 7-5. Wayenburg could not get anything going in set two and dropped the set by a 6-0 score.
Hugo Lobo played No. 2 singles and battled but dropped both sets, 6-3, 6-3. The Orange & Black's Danny Flynn fought at No. 6 but could not come out on top, dropping the match, 7-5, 6-3.
