Bears Win Key Conference Match

Mercer defeated UNCG 6-1 on Sunday
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis team got back in the win column on Sunday as they won a key Southern Conference match over UNCG. The Bears earned a 6-1 victory.
The day started with doubles not going the Bears way. Mercer dropped all three doubles matches and trailed 1-0 to visiting UNCG early.
The Bears flipped a switch when they took the court for singles action. Michael Durham clinched the first point for Mercer on the day. He defeated Roger Rogowski, 6-1, 6-1 in No. 5 singles. The Bears took the lead at 2-1 after Lucas Wayenburg won his singles match at No. 1 singles. Wayenburg won the first set, 6-4, before falling in the second. In the third and final set, Wayenburg wasted little time winning as he won 6-0.
The winning continued for the Bear as Hugo Lobo won in No. 2 singles. Lobo defeated Hugh Knapp 6-3, 7-6 giving the Bears a 3-1 lead and needing only one of the final three matches to win the match.
David Georgadze clinched the win for Mercer. In No. 4 singles, Georgadze defeated Alexander Zuckerman, 6-4, 7-5. The win for the Bears snapped a three-match losing streak. Following Georgadze wins, Samuel Barrow made it 5-1 in favor of Mercer. He won 6-4, in the first set before dropping set two. In a tiebreak, Barrow won 10-4.
No. 3 singles player, Carver Arant, made it 6-1 after he defeated Nico Grewe. In a three-set match, Arant dropped the first set but responded by winning the next two, 6-3, 7-6.
