Bears Rally From 3-0 Deficit to Defeat Mocs

Mercer won its third straight match
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Mercer men's tennis team trailed 3-0 against Chattanooga on Sunday before mounting a huge comeback victory. The Bears won the final four singles matches to earn the victory.
The victory for the Bears was its third straight, and they have now won eight of their last nine matches. The win for the Bears moves Mercer to 11-12 on the season and 4-2 in the SoCon. The win secures a spot in the SoCon Conference Tournament.
Playing doubles, Mercer dropped No. 1 doubles. The duo of Michael Durham and Samuel Barrow bounced back tying the doubles at 1-1 as they earned a 6-3 win in No. 3 doubles. The Mocs answered back taking the doubles point by winning No. 2 doubles, 6-4.
Mercer found themselves down 3-0 after losing in No. 6 and No. 1 singles.
The Bears started mounting their comeback in No. 3 singles. Carver Arant defeated Kerim Hyatt, 6-2, 7-6 (5) giving the Bears their first point of the day. David Georgadze clinched the second point for the Bears with a win in No. 4 singles. He defeated Simon Labbe, 6-4, 7-6 (3).
Needing the final two matches to win the match, the Bears looked to be in trouble as Lucas Wayenburg and Michael Durham dropped the first set in their matches. Durham bounced back winning set two, 6-3, and forcing a third set. In the third set, Durham trailed 4-1 and had ad out. Durham mounted a huge comeback and won the third set 6-4 taking the match and tying the match at 3-3.
Wayenburg, the No. 2 singles player for the Bears, responded in the second set taking the set 6-3. In the third set, Wayenburg came out strong and won the set 6-4, giving the Bears a 4-3 comeback victory over the Mocs.
