Bears winning streak snapped at five

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Mercer men's tennis team saw its five match win streak snapped on Friday afternoon by Furman. The Bears were defeated 6-1 in Southern Conference action.

In doubles, the Bears and Paladins were locked in a battle. Mercer struck first as Michael Durham and Samuel Barrow defeated Emil Westling and Drew Singerman, 6-3. Needing only one more match to clinch the doubles point, the Paladins answered back taking No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and taking a 1-0 lead.

Mercer fell down 2-0 after Furman took No. 1 singles. Mercer cut the lead in half when Lucas Wayenburg defeated Jake Bhangdia, 6-3, 6-3 in No. 2 singles. The Bears need to win three more singles matches to take the match.

Mercer found themselves up a set in No. 3 singles after Carver Arant won 7-5 in the first set. However, Arant dropped the next two sets and fell in No. 3 singles.

After dropping the first set in No. 6 singles, Barrow responded by winning the second set, 6-3, and forcing a third set. However, he was defeated 6-1 in the third set of his match. After the Bears dropped the first set in No. 4 and No. 5 singles, the Bears battled looking to force a third set but fell short as David Georgadze was defeated 7-5 in set two and Durham was defeated 7-6.
