Mercer Defeated by UNCG in Three Straight
Macon, Ga.  – The Mercer Bears opened up SoCon play in Greensboro, N.C. with a sweep by UNCG.Â
UNCG 19, Mercer 1
A double by Brown would get the Spartans back on base after Cumbie was caught stealing second. A single from Batten scored Brown to get the Spartans on the board. Loftin homered immediately after, Spartans up by three.Â
A walk from Diamond Williams would be the only time a Bear would touch base in the second.Â
Katie Rearley kept the game within three, allowing no hits in the bottom of the second.
Sophie Sumner led off the third with a single. A hit by the pitcher to Rebeca Laudino put two Bears on base. Kenlie Harvey reached first on fielder's choice, but the Bears remained scoreless.Â
Brown singled as the lead of the third and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Matthijs singled to third before a homerun from Loftin scored Matthijs and Brown. Maxwell singled and Lagrama walked before a homerun from Shipley extended the Spartan lead to nine.
On the first pitch in the bottom of the fourth, Brown homeward. Matthijs walked and Batten homered scoring them both. The Bears made a replacement in the circle entering Tori Hedgecock. Loftin homered extending the lead to 13. Gontram and White singled back-to-back before a homer from Lagrama scored them all. UNCG 16, Mercer 0. Kincer entered to pinch-hit for a Cumbie and walked before the pinch-hitter for Brown, Dalehite reached first following a hit by the pitcher. A wild pitch advanced both before a home run from Matthijs put the Bears at a 19-point disadvantage. A fly ball to center field ended the ending with bases loaded.
