Mercer Unable to Complete Sweep

Macon, Ga. – The Mercer Bears finished 2-1 in their weekend series against the Furman Paladins. The Bears won the series but were unable to complete the sweep with a 4-2 loss today.

FURMAN 4, MERCER 2

Diamond Williams lead off the second with a double to left field. A ground ball by Morgan Hall advanced Williams to third. Grace Prom was hit by the pitcher and called out at second with a fielder's choice reach from Kenlie Harvey. Williams scored during the same play putting the Bears up by one early.

Tori Ash's single to second base in the bottom of the third would be the only hit of that inning.

The Paladins took the lead in the top of the fourth with Ashlee Lykins reaching second on a throwing error. A sacrifice bunt from Alex Rose Molinar advanced Lykins to third. Emily Bartlett would be hit by the pitcher before a single from Riley Ludlam scored Bartlett and Lykins. Furman 2, Mercer 1.

Hall earned a walk in the bottom of the fourth.

Rebeca Laudino lead the bottom of the sixth with a single followed by a single from Alyssa woods. Woods advanced to second on wild pitch with a double from Williams scoring Woods to tie the game.

Both the Bears and the Paladins would be unable to score in the seventh, continuing the game into an eighth inning.

Lykins singled in the top of the eighth and stole second. A ground ball from Molinar advanced Lykins to third before a double from Ludlam score Lykins. Natalie Morgan reached on error and Ludlam scored putting the Paladins up by two. The Bears were unable to regain the lead in the bottom of the eighth, losing the final game of the series.

The Bears will face the Auburn Tigers at home on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
