Mercer Tied in Series with Western Carolina
WESTERN CAROLINAÂ Â 18, MERCER 1
Rebeca Laudino led off the top of the first reaching on error. Laudino reached  second with a sacrifice bunt from Kenlie Harvey and advanced to third during Annie Potter's at bat. Diamond Williams also reached on error and advanced to second while Laudino scored. Adele Braun singled down the middle before the end of the inning. Mercer 1, WCU 0.Â
Tori Hedgecock earned a walk in the top of the second.
As the lead off, Twitty homered to tie the score at one. Rice doubled and advanced to third with a sacrifice bunt from Mentel. Rice scored during Wells' at bat, giving the Catamounts a one-point lead by the end of the inning.
In the bottom of the third, Perillo walked, Brewington singled with a bunt, and Henry was hit by the pitcher to load the bases. Honeycutt hit a grand slam scoring all four before Bailey Pattinson came in to pitch for Hannah Pitts. Mercer 1, WCU 6.Â
Wells singled up the middle as a lead off of the bottom of the fourth. Baldwin singled before Perillo hit a sacrificed bunt to advance Baldwin and Wells to second and third. Brewington doubled, scoring Baldwin and Wells before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Henry walked and stole second before Honeycutt doubled through left field scoring Henry and Brewington. Honeycutt advanced to third on a wild pitch before a walk from Twitty. Rice doubled to left, advancing to third on the throw. Riddle (pinch runner) and Honeycutt scored, extending the Catamounts lead to 11. Mentel singled scoring Rice before a homerun from Wells scored herself and Mentel. Riley Hickok would come in to pitch for Pattinson before Baldwin doubled and Perillo singled. Brewington reached on fielder's choice with Baldwin scoring. Henry homered, 2 RBI. A single from Honeycutt will be the last hit of the inning. Mercer 1, WCU 18.Â
In the top of the fifth, Alyssa Woods doubled and Laudino singled with a bunt. The Bears would be unable to record any additional hits or runs before the run rule ending of the game after the top of the fifth.
MERCER 9, WESTERN CAROLINA 7Â
Rebeca Laudino led off the first inning with a single. Elisa Rosado hit a sacrifice by bunt to advance Laudino to second with a ground ball from Annie Potter advancing her to third. Laudino scored on a single from Diamond Williams.
As the lead, Brewington singled and eventually stole second. Honeycutt walked and advanced to second with Brewington being caught stealing at third. Twitty walked before a homer from Rice scored three. Mercer 1, WCU 3.
Adele Braun led the second with a double and was met on base by Sophie Sumner who was hit by the pitcher.Â
The Bears would tie the game in the top of the third starting with a single from Rosado. A sacrifice bunt from Potter advanced Rosado to second. Diamond Williams reached on fielder's choice with Rosado out at second. A home run from Morgan Hall scored herself and Williams and marked the first home run of the season for Hall.Â
The Bears extended their lead in the top of the fourth. Sumner doubled to right followed by a single from Woods, scoring Sumner. Mercer 4, WCU 3.
Potter led the fifth with a single followed by a single from Williams. Hall doubled, scoring Potter and advancing Williams the third. Braun hit a sacrifice fly scoring Williams and advancing Hall to third. A ground ball from Kenlie Harvey would score Hall before a walk from Sumner. The Bears ended the inning with a four-point lead, Mercer 7, WCU 3.
Katie Rearley held the Catamounts to no hits in the second, third, and fourth innings before a home run from Treadway in the bottom of the fifth. The homer would be the only scoring play of the inning, putting the Catamounts within three.
Laudino led the top of the sixth with a bunt single. Rosado reached on fielder's choice advancing to third on a double from Potter. A ground ball from Williams scored Rosado and moved Potter to third. Three straight walks from Hall, Braun, and Harvey scored Potter. Mercer 9, WCU 4.Â
In the bottom of the seventh, Henry reached base after being hit by the pitcher. Honeycutt homered, scoring two. The homer from Twitty would be the last of the game allowing the Catamounts to come within two but the Bears would finish victorious.
