
Bears Lose Series Against Bulldogs

Macon, Ga.  – The Mercer Bears hosted the Samford Bulldogs for their conference home opener. The Bears were swept in the series, 0-3.Â

Rebeca Laudino led the bottom of the first with a single to the pitcher.Â

Annie Potter walked as the lead of the second. A sacrifice fly ball from Morgan Hall advanced Potter to second. Kenlie Harvey singled, scoring Potter. Mercer 1, Samford 0.Â

The Bears extended their lead in the bottom of the third starting with a single from Laudino. Laudino advanced to second on an error by the first baseman and moved to third with a single by Alyssa Woods. Woods eventually stole second followed by a walk from Diamond Williams. A single from Adele Braun scored Laudino and Woods. Williams extended the lead to four, scoring on a fly ball from Hall to right field.Â

In the top of the fifth, a homerun from Holcombe, scored Howe. Mercer 4, Samford 2.Â

Braun recorded another hit in the bottom of the fifth.Â

In the top of the sixth, Hornibrook homered, scoring Cahoon who singled during the prior at bat. Tie game.Â

The game remained tied through the top of the ninth inning. Hornibrook and Howe singled back-to-back. A single from Squillace scored the Nelson (pinch runner) and Howe. Cothran and Tedder singled back-to-back with the single from Tedder scoring Squillace and Cothran. Samford 8, Mercer 4.Â

Other than a single from Williams in the bottom of the ninth, the Bears were unable to regain their lead.Â
Up Next
The Bears will face Kennesaw State for the third and final time this season with a mid-week matchup in Kennesaw. The game is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.Â
