MACON, Ga. – The Mercer softball team completed their annual Heart of Georgia Classic this afternoon. The Bears finished 1-2 on the weekend with two losses today.

How It Happened
Game One, vs Hampton
Hampton, coming off of an 8-1 win against FAMU, started the game with a home run bomb to give them a 4-0 lead. Hampton's defense held till the bottom of the third when Avery Barton hit a left-field double. The Bears would finish mid-fourth with zero runs, two hits, and one error.
Emma Dorval had her first big hit of the season with a left-field single to push Morgan Hall to second. The Bears were left on base due to a strike out at the plate. Mercer dominated the top of the fifth with a three-up, three-down. Alyssa Woods picked up her first stolen base. The Pirates added their second home run and multiple runs in the 6th and 7th to finish the game 10-0.

Game Two, vs Florida A&M
Mercer held a three up and three down to start the game and FAMU retaliated with the same. Tori Hedgecock recorded her second home run of the season to put the Bears on top heading into the second. Mercer's defense was showcased with three straight innings with no hits. FAMU heated up in the top of the fourth with an RBI into left field to tie.
The Rattlers picked up four runs in the sixth inning after multiple infield hits that were closed out by a strikeout from Riley Hickok. FAMU held their lead and took the game 5-1.

Up Next
The Bears will be on the road this week as they head north to face Kennesaw State University. The match-up is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 5:00 p.m.
