Mercer Falls to Troy

MACON, Ga. -Â The Troy Trojans (7-3) defeated the Mercer Bears (4-6)Â 8-3, on Wednesday evening from Sikes Field.
How It Happened
Grace Taylor took the mound for the Bears and got off to a good defensive start leaving one Trojan on base. Lillian Wilkerson picked up a hit by a pitch and advance to
second when Rebeca Laudino singled down third base line. A double play closed out a scoreless first inning.
The Trojans were able to advance a runner to third on a ground out and pop up but Mercer was able to close it with an easy pop out. Mercers batters went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the second and the score remained 0-0.
The Bears answer defensively with a 1-2-3 top of the third. The bottom of the third for the Bears started out with two strike outs followed by a single from Woods and then by Wilkerson getting hit by pitch for the second time in the game. With two on and two outs Mercer was unable to capitalize with a strike out.
In the top of the fourth, the Trojans got back to back doubles to score the first run. They kept up their momentum to gain five runs and ended the fourth in the lead 5-0.Â
Mercer came to bat in the bottom of the fourth down 5-0. Two quick outs as Helms filed out and Paris Wiggs strikeouts finished the inning.
The Trojans led off the fifth with a single. A pop up to Woods in center and a hit by pitch put two on with one out. With a pop up to Tori Hedgecock, there were two outs with the bases loaded. Katie Rearley walked in a run but got the next batter to fly out to center leaving three Troy players stranded on base. In the bottom of the fifth, Mercer went down with a fly out to center and two strike outs swinging.

The top of the sixth saw a pitching change for Mercer as Riley Hickok came to the mound. She got a pop up then walked one followed by a single with two on and one out she got a strikeout and got the next batter to fly out to end the inning.Â
Helms placed a hit right over the right side of the infield to load the bases with no outs. Grace Prom delivered a long fly out to bring home Sumner from third. Morgan Hall singled to bring Laudino. A walk for Emma Dorval would bring in one more run to finish out the inning with three runs, three hits, and three left on base. Troy would pick up one more run in the seventh but kept the Bears at bay to take the game 8-3.

The Bears will host the Mercer Bear Invitational this weekend, Feb 24-25. The first game is on Friday against the University of South Carolina at 6:30 p.m.
